This trip back to 1978 is posted without comment, for the hardy of mind, body and spirit. Ognir Rrats syas, “Eniacoc si a avulleh gurd.”

Having never seen this “special ” before, I find that Ringo’s entire demeanor bespeaks a deep melancholy.
Was this smack in the middle of his serious alcohol use/abuse? Although he appears to be in fine, albeit rather hirsute, physical fettle, there is a noticeable lack of the joie de vivre that he previously excluded.
If anything, there seems to be an anger under that exterior. I wouldn’t have wanted to have stepped on his wrong side.
Yeah, I think he was deep into cocaine and alcohol in 1978. A lot of people were. The bills of longterm use of substances were starting to come due. Not just Ringo and the rockers (Nilsson, Moon, etc), but also the comedy people (Chapman, Feldman, Cook, etc). When you’re young, you can do more and bounce back faster; but by the late 30s, the symptoms and bad life choices are beginning to mount up. They are an undertow.
I posted this Ringo interview earlier, but it’s more appropriate here:

No one ever said, “Oh, yeah, fuck — er, sod — him.”
Not during the Beatles perhaps, but after the breakup they certainly did. Isn’t that what Back Off Boogaloo was supposed to address? I mean, Paul says it right at the beginning of Too Many People. John burned his bridges as well. Ringo and Paul, bless them, are the eternal optimists who want to paint a rosy picture of everything.

I just saw the news that Ringo has cancelled some concerts because he has tested positive for covid.
I hope he’s fully boosted (and not taking advice from people like Eric Clapton or Van Morrison).
